Marcelo Barbosa, born in Brasília, Brazil, began playing guitar at 12 and was influenced by Brazilian rock alongside of iconic bands like Rush, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and so on. By 17, he was already performing professionally and teaching music. In 1996, he founded GTR Guitar Institute, an innovative school focusing on guitar education, which became one of Latin America's top music institutions. Marcelo continued to develop his skills, attending Berklee College of Music on a full scholarship in 2002 and studying with renowned musicians.
In 2007, he joined the band Almah, collaborating with members of Angra such as Edu Falaschi. With Almah, he toured internationally and released successful albums, including "Fragile Equality" and "Motion." In 2015, Marcelo became the guitarist for Angra, replacing Kiko Loureiro.
MB10-BKN, his first signature model from Ibanez, is based on the AZ Standard and has not only cosmetic appeal like Black Night finish with metallic flakes, Black circle inlay on the fingerboard as on his beloved AZ Prestige, but also the metal dome knobs that were chosen for his playing needs. Marcelo’s own signature can be found on the guitar’s rear control cavity plate as well.

Ibanez Modern Custom pickups feature a dual humbucker configuration with alnico V magnets. They offer powerful tone and a quick response, which pair especially well with overdrive and distortion.

T106 tremolo
The T106 tremolo bridge with 6 independent saddles makes precise height and intonation adjustment of each string easy.
dyna-MIX10 switching system with Alter Switch
The dyna-MIX 10 offers ten sound variations and can easily switch from humbucker and single coil modes with the mini switch. The power Tap mode provides a realistic single coil sound despite its two humbucker pickup layout.
Super All Access Neck Joint
The Super All Access Neck Joint increases playability and allows for easy access to the higher frets.
